Officers Who Protect Our Most Vulnerable Stand with Wendy Greuel
LOS ANGELES, CA – Following President Obama’s call for stronger gun control laws at last night’s State of the Union address, today the Wendy Greuel for Mayor campaign launched its third ad, highlighting the importance of keeping every Angeleno safe.
In addition to releasing the 30-second online ad, today Greuel announced an endorsement from the Los Angeles School Police Officers Association (LASPOA).

“LA’s school police are excited to give Wendy Greuel our strong endorsement,” said James Ream, President of the Los Angeles School Police Officers Association (LASPOA). “As a mother with a son in an LA public school, Wendy has a deep understanding of the importance of what our officers do every day. Throughout her career, Wendy has been a tireless advocate for school safety. She helped establish LA’s BEST, a critical afterschool program that keeps kids off the streets and out of gangs, and she’s been a leader in the fight to keep guns out of schools. We are proud to join forces with Wendy in her campaign for Mayor of Los Angeles.”
The Los Angeles School Police Officers Association (LASPOA) is the largest association of its kind in the nation. The group is made up of over 350 members, with approximately 250 sworn officers and 100 detectives. The goal of LASPOA is to create a tranquil and safe environment in which students and teachers can grow and learn.
“As Mayor—and as a mom with a son in the LA public schools—my number one priority is to keep ALL of our children safe, before, during, and after school. That’s why I helped establish LA’s BEST, one of the most successful afterschool programs in the country and why I am committed to keeping guns out of schools, reducing the drop out rate, and expanding vocational and career technical programs in our high schools. I am truly honored to have the support of the Los Angeles School Police Officers Association and look forward to partnering with them to keep our kids and schools safe.”
Signifying that public safety will be one of her top priorities as Mayor, recently Greuel released public safety priorities that aim to enhance residents' safety throughout all of Los Angeles. Earlier this week, legendary former LA Police Chief Bill Bratton announced his support of Greuel's public safety goals.
Beyond her public safety plan, Greuel has been outpacing her opponents when it comes to winning support from law enforcement and public safety groups. Beyond having the support of the Los Angeles School Police Officers Association (LASPOA), Greuel also recently secured the backing of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS), Law Enforcement Association of Asian Pacifics (LEAAP), the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), and the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) Local 112.
